California: Blockbuster Video

This video store at one time located on McHenry Ave. in Modesto, California quickly gained a reputation for being haunted in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Several employees at this store had unusual experiences while working there.

The ghost at this store liked to get the attention of the living. Most of the activity was noticed after the store had closed for the evening.

At one time the store sold a variety of battery-activated toys. This ghost would turn these items on at night and the employees would find them out of place the next morning.

Other activity included: People passing the store late at night would see the lights turning on and off and the store restroom doors which were always locked up at the end of the business day would often be found open the next day.

Employees also reported hearing these doors open and then slam shut on their own.

At other times multi- video boxes displayed on shelves were found on the floor the next morning and on one occasion an employee saw several of them fly off the shelf as if they were flung to the floor.

One night after midnight a manager and employee went into the store office when they returned to the display floor they discovered over 30 video boxes stacked neatly one on top of the other on the floor. They didn’t stay to investigate--they left the store immediately.

Various employees while the store was open reported the following startling incident.

They all at the time were working closing shifts and once the store’s videos were turned off for the night they heard a strange voice come over the store’s sound system. It was heard saying, “shh…listen.” At other times it stated, “You’ve been bad.”

By 2008 this store had been torn down. Two years later a Fuddruckers Restaurant was built on the same lot. Since, It appears this haunting has continued for the staff who works at this restaurant have reported it is haunted.

Here is activity caught on store's security camera.
